2024, the year I made a plan.

Attempting something new, making a plan and holding myself accountable.

A Fresh Approach to My Goals

Every year, I set ambitious goals for myself. It’s either diving deep into a new technology or finally getting that long-pending project off the ground. The list goes on. But this year, I’m trying something different: planning ahead and holding myself accountable.

At work, our team has grown, and we’re tackling more complex projects. Communication and planning have become crucial. As a result, I’m taking cues from our professional practices and applying them to my personal projects.

Plan It Out:

  • No more winging it! I’m creating solid plans for my personal endeavours.
  • Clear goals, deadlines, and steps—just like a roadmap.

Stay Accountable:

  • I’m my own boss now. Regular check-ins and progress tracking are essential.
  • No slacking off—I’ve got this!

Learn from Work:

  • Our teamwork thrives on communication and coordination.
  • I’m adopting these principles for my solo projects.

Navigating My Year with Purpose

At the beginning of 2024, I set myself a clear plan. I wanted to achieve specific things throughout the year, so I divided it into quarters. Each quarter had a goal.

For Q1, my mission was to get this website up and running. I broke the project up into sprints of planning, design, project setup, content modelling and finally development earmarking appropriate time windows to achieve a strict set of deliverables.
The project itself was not overly complex but going through the motions allowed me to identify areas of friction and places of improvement which I can carry into future projects.
It was also an introduction to the usage of sanity.io which came with its own learnings (separate article to follow!)

This year, it’s not just about the finish line; it’s about the journey. Let’s see where this intentional approach takes me.
